Uppdatering (april 2026): Sverige har tilldelats ytterligare en plats till 2026 DF95 Global Championship som ännu inte är fylld. Vi räknar med att det totalt blir nio deltagare från Sverige, plus en seglare som fått wild card från det internationella förbundet (DF ICA).
2026 DF95 Global Championship kommer att arrangeras i Sydafrika, vilket markerar en spännande milstolpe för DragonFlite 95-klassen på den afrikanska kontinenten.
Evenemangsinformation
- Datum: 16–23 oktober 2026
- Plats: Theewaterskloof Dam vid Theewater Sports Club, Villiersdorp, Västra Kapprovinsen
- Läge: ca 100 km öst om Kapstaden, med Franschhoek endast 15 minuter bort
- Arrangörer: Cape Radio Yacht Club tillsammans med Theewater Sports Club
Eventschema (8-dagars program)
- Dag 1–2 (16–17 okt): Ankomst, mätning, träningslopp, invigning och välkomstmiddag
- Dag 3–5 (18–20 okt): Kvalificeringsserie (start 10:00, slut 17:00)
- Dag 6 (21 okt): Reservdag med utflykter och vinprovning
- Dag 7 (22 okt): Finalserien börjar
- Dag 8 (23 okt): Finalserien avslutas, prisutdelning och middag
- Dag 9 (24 okt): Avresa
Varje seglingsdag inleds med Race Officer/Country Representative-möte 09:00–09:15, och kvällarna innehåller ”In It to Win It”-lotterier och middag 18:30–19:00.
Platsen
Theewaterskloof Dam är Sydafrikas tredje största damm och Kapstadens huvudsakliga vattentillförsel. Theewater Sports Club har tidigare arrangerat flera världs- och regionmästerskap i segling.
Förväntade förhållanden: Oktober är vår i Sydafrika – kyligt väder med lätta östliga vindar på morgnarna och måttliga till friska sydostliga vindar på eftermiddagarna.
Kvalificering och platsfördelning
Fördelningen följer en trestegsprocess:
- Steg 1 (januari 2026): 1 plats till försvarande mästare; 10 wild card-platser (DFICA/OA); 2 platser per land med registrerad NCA/NCS; 4 extra platser för värdlandet Sydafrika
- Steg 2 (mars 2026): Resterande platser fördelas baserat på genomsnittligt deltagarantal i de två senaste nationella mästerskapen före 1 januari 2026
- Steg 3: Återstående wild card-platser tilldelas; övriga platser enligt ”First Come First Served”
Utifrån denna process har Sverige efter steg 2 tilldelats ytterligare en plats utöver tidigare besked – totalt räknar vi med nio svenska deltagare plus en wild card-seglare.
Boende
Flera alternativ finns i och omkring Villiersdorp: Lake Lodge, Faraway House, Rietspruit Country Cottages, De Rust Farmhouse and Cottages, Berg n Dal, Wolfkloof, De Villiers Country Lodge, Dennehof Farm Guest Houses, Apple Blossom Self Catering House samt glamping/camping vid klubben. Franschhoek (36 km) erbjuder ytterligare alternativ.
Hyrbåtar och utrustning
Arrangörerna kan ordna båthyrning, men tävlande rekommenderas ta med egna segel och radioapparater.

DF95 Global Championship 2026 – South Africa
The 2026 DF95 Global Championship will be hosted in South Africa, marking an exciting milestone for the DragonFlite 95 class in the African continent.

Event Schedule
The championship follows a comprehensive 8-day program:df95racing
- Day 1-2 (Oct 16-17): Arrival days with measurement, practice courses, opening ceremony and welcome dinner
- Day 3-5 (Oct 18-20): Qualifying Series racing (first start 10:00, racing ends 17:00)
- Day 6 (Oct 21): Spare day with tours and wine tasting excursions
- Day 7 (Oct 22): Final Series racing begins
- Day 8 (Oct 23): Final Series concludes, prize giving dinner
- Day 9 (Oct 24): Departure day
Each racing day includes a Race Officer/Country Representative briefing at 09:00-09:15, with evening ”In It to Win It” lucky draws and dinner at 18:30-19:00.df95racing
How South Africa Won the Bid
In May 2024, the DF International Class Association (ICA) announced that South Africa had been awarded the 2026 championship after evaluating three bids from the USA and South Africa. Phil Burgess, DF ICA Chairman, stated: ”I am extremely happy that we have the opportunity to take the Global Championships to South Africa in 2026. The DF95 class is growing at pace around the world, and we are committed to ensuring that all countries that have adopted the DF classes could host a championship”.dfracing+1
The South African bid was evaluated on criteria including sailing conditions, accessibility, event facilities, accommodation, safety and security, and rotation between countries and regions.dfracing
The Venue
Theewaterskloof Dam is South Africa’s third-largest dam and Cape Town’s main water supply. The Theewater Sports Club has previously hosted numerous sailing World and Regional Championships, making it an experienced venue for major events.dfracing+1
Expected Sailing Conditions: October is springtime in South Africa. The weather should be cool with light easterly winds in the mornings and moderate to strong southeasterly winds in the afternoons. Southeasterlies are the prevailing winds for spring and summer.df95racing
Qualification and Place Allocation
The allocation follows a three-stage process:dfracinguk
Stage 1 (January 2026):
- 1 place for defending champion
- 10 wildcard places (allocated by DFICA and Organizing Authority)
- 2 places per country with registered NCA/NCS
- 4 additional places for host nation (South Africa)
Stage 2 (March 2026):
- Remaining places distributed based on average participants from the last two national championships completed before January 1, 2026
Stage 3:
- Remaining wildcard places allocated
- All other places on ”First Come First Served” basis
